“Just over a year ago, I was overweight and unfit. One day I had found it difficult to tie my shoelaces because of my stomach. It was then I decided to do something about it – I couldn’t stand being so unhealthy any longer.
I looked into a few different personal trainers/options and was drawing a blank. I saw a tweet from The Body Blueprint asking the question; Do you want to get into the best shape of your life? Yes I very much did! So I sent a message.
I set up a phone meeting with James to discuss what I was looking for and the options that I had. James was very knowledgeable and was able to break down what was needed in terms that someone like me, who at the time had a very basic grasp of nutrition and exercise, could understand.
The only snag was, I wasn’t based in London – not a problem though, there was an online coaching option which gave me access to everything I would need – without the added cost of a gym membership! So I was sold on the online coaching – and we began the process.
It was tough at first; there were some foods that I’d gotten into the habit of eating that I had to cut out. Some things I’d never heard of being introduced – I didn’t know about coconut oil!
Then there were the workouts. This was the tricky part as I hadn’t really done any form of regular exercise before. It was difficult at first – to get into the routine of getting up and exercising and not giving up easily. After a while I got into the swing of it, and it’s now easily part of my daily routine.
I’ve enjoyed the workouts and in particular being able to push myself as hard as I have to get to where I am now. I’ve also enjoyed the nutrition side as I’ve found myself trying a wider range of foods than I had previously.
I’ve also been encouraged by the changes I have noticed throughout – which has kept me striving to work harder each time.
So far my work has paid off over the past year! I’ve lost nearly all of my body fat and have improved my overall muscle tone. I’m also feeling better – I used to experience a lot of acid reflux before I started this process. This has now completely gone and I find that for the most part I have a lot more energy than I used to.
My goals for the next year are to get rid of any remaining body fat and increase muscle tone, mass and definition as much as I reasonably can. This past year has taught me to be more patient and not to expect instant results – whether that’s weight loss or improving muscle tone.
I have enjoyed the process this past year and would recommend it to anyone! James is encouraging throughout, whilst also setting realistic expectations. This is extremely important as it makes sure that it keeps you on the right track. I know that if ever I have any problems or questions, I can get in touch with James and he’ll provide the answers. Importantly though again, it’s not necessarily the answers you want, but the answers that are ultimately right for you and your situation.
